YEAR ONE
AUTUMN 2010 Course: HONORS 210 Celluloid Myth: Putting' on the Rex-- Professor Jim Clauss Annotation: This is the final exam for Honors 210 offered in Autumn 2010. The course was called Celluloid Myth: Puttin' on the Rex. The exam consisted of three parts: the writing of a movie script that contained mythical elements, the analysis of a movie that contained mythical elements (mainly katabasis--the descent of a hero into the underworld and his re-emergence into his previous world as a better, changed person), and short essays on movies we had watched in class. I enjoyed this class as my first honors class, especially since it addressed a topic (mythology) I am interested in. I particularly liked writing my own movie script for this final exam since it involved creative writing, and I also enjoyed analyzing the katabasis elements in "A Christmas Carol". WINTER 2011 Course: FISH 101 Water & Society-- Professor Daniel Schindler and Professor Julien Olden; TA Thomas Annotation: This is an article critique on shale gas mining for the honors quiz section of FISH 101. The assignment was to research an article on environmental issues pertaining to water, and to critique how the information was presented. FISH 101 was one of my favorite classes freshman year and it was a major factor in my decision to do environmental studies. For this particular assignment, I enjoyed reading this article not just as a reader seeking information, but as a critical reader as well. I learned about shale gas mining, which was all new, interesting information to me. |

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
SPRING 2011 This project occurred with the Honors Program Experiential Spring Break 2011. We learned about sustainable agriculture and urban farming in places in and around Seattle. I enjoyed the project because it combined my interests of food and the environment into an informative and interesting week-long service-based program. It coincided with my major, environmental studies, and was overall a great experience. |
